Shortly after returning from my holiday in Parga, Greece, at the end of June I was surprised to hear that Simon Duffy had left in Control. I worked closely with Simon during my time as in Control’s Business Manager and had remained in touch over the last few years, so naturally, I called Simon when I heard the news.
We arranged to meet up, a fellow self-direct Director joined Simon and me for lunch last week and the 3 of us chatted about the possibilities of how Simon may want to be involved with self-direct. We discussed developing new special projects. Simon was interested in exploring these possibilities further with us and I was delighted when Simon decided to join self-direct as an associate.
In line with Simon’s usual ‘open source’ way of sharing information, knowledge, and experience, he offered to share some of his papers and other pieces of work that are relevant to the work of self-direct and we decided we would feature these in the resources section of our website, adding to them as we go along.
What will the special projects involve? We have some ideas and I’m sure whatever the special projects are, they will help us to take our activities in promoting changes in the social and health ‘market-place’ to a new and exciting level.
Working with Simon was always a fascinating and challenging experience, in the best possible way. I am really looking forward to working with him again and I know what we aim to do at self-direct will really benefit as Simon joins our team of amazing and inspiring people.
